Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which is used to treat the acidic stomach or by decreasing the amount of acid produced by stomach. It can also cure the ulcers in the duodenal and gastric region of the stomach.
It also treats
- Erosive Esophagitis,
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), and
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition wherein the stomach produces too much acid.
This medicine is also used to prevent stomach ulcers and stomach irritation in patients taking NSAIDs (eg, aspirin, ibuprofen) for long periods of time.
