MECHANISM OF ACTION

Rifaximin (Rifawar) acts by inhibiting RNA synthesis in susceptible bacteria by binding to the beta- submit of bacterial deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) -dependent ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase enzymes. This results in the blockage of the translocation step that normally follows the formations of the first phosphodiester bond, which occurs in the transcription process. This is in turn result in a reduction of bacteria population , including gas producing bacteria, which may reduce mucosal inflammation , epithelial dysfunction and visceral hypersensitivity. Rifaximin ( Rifawar ) include inhibtion of bacterial translocation across the epithelial lining of the inrestine , inhibtion of adherence of bacteria to the epithelial cells and a reduction of proinflammatory cytokines.
